# Temporary Bracing & Stabilisation: Builder Checklist Between Set and Enclosure Between the set and enclosure is where timber frames can get bumped, racked, or tweaked. Wind events, material staging, and trade traffic can introduce movement if the temporary stabilisation plan is not explicit. This builder checklist is meant to reduce risk and protect schedule. It does not replace engineering direction; if the project requires engineered temporary bracing, follow that first. ## Builder checklist: stabilise the frame after the set ### 1. Confirm the temporary bracing plan Before trades touch the frame, confirm what is required to keep the structure stable until sheathing/enclosure provides diaphragm action. ### 2. Establish a plumb/line baseline Right after the set, record baseline checks (plumb, level, key diagonals) so any later movement is detected early. ### 3. Tie paths and anchorage Confirm posts, base connections, and any temporary ties are installed as intended. Loose anchorage plus wind is how frames walk. ### 4. Brace for the first wind event (not the average day) Assume you will get a meaningful gust before enclosure. Ensure braces are installed to resist lateral loads from multiple directions. ### 5. Control trade access and staging Set rules for where ladders, lifts, and material can lean or stage. Most cosmetic and alignment damage happens here. ### 6. Re-check after heavy activity After decking work, roof staging, or a big material delivery, re-check plumb/line and retighten as needed per plan. ### 7. Define the bracing removal trigger Do not remove temporary bracing because it is in the way.
